YELENA KAJEVIC
BAILEY-KIRBY'S BIO:
____________________________
I have been teaching English Composition, Creative Writing, and Literature courses for more than twenty-three years, and my teaching experience includes the College of DuPage, Lewis University, the University of St. Francis, and Illinois Valley Community College before coming to the College of Southern Nevada.
I have been enjoying my role as an instructor in the English department at CSN as well as being the advisor of the creative writing club since 2010 when I moved to Las Vegas with my husband George.
I was awarded the advisor of the year (2013) for my work with the creative writing students (from organizing open mics and holding workshop sessions to fundraising and putting forth three publications for the students: Neon Dreams Journal, Aspirations Magazine, and The Stylus).
Besides teaching and advising, I have served on the following committees: Curriculum Committee, Assessment Committee, Library Advisory Committee, Writing Center Advisory Committee, TYCA-West Conference Planning Committee, English Composition Committee, and Creative Writing Committee. I have also been on several Search Committees during the last few years, and I also served for a few years as poetry editor of the Red Rock Review.
As for my educational background, my graduate degree is in English Literary Studies: Classic Modern Writing from the University of London, U.K. and my undergraduate degree is in English and Philosophy from DePaul University, IL.
However, being a life-long learner, I have continued to take courses, such as graphic design, web design, and education courses to stay current in my field over the years, and I even speak six languages.
Along with my teaching career, I have also worked as an editor at Tyndale House Publishers, and I have been a writer of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and screenplays, and I have also worked as a social worker and counselor since I also studied and received training in psychology.
I have also been an artist who works in several mediums, and I have had exhibits of my work in Chicago, Los Angeles, Paris, and London. I plan on showing my work in Las Vegas sometime soon.
